It makes such a difference in the classroom to have so many wonderful mentors and supporters of students in the school setting. We really appreciate your work. Thanks again! Ms. Ledford | Thank you, Thank you! Before the whirlwind of the last two days begins, I want to take time to give you family members all a huge thank you for the support you have provided this year. So many of you have found the time to come in and support our learning in the classroom and/or follow our learning online, Thank you! All of you have supported your child each day as they journeyed through their kindergarten year, supporting home reading and learning to decipher kindergarten spelling and attending school events! This positive home support is so important in helping maintain your child's positive connection to school. Thank you so much for giving your kids such an amazing start! It has been a joy to get to know all of you and your students this year. They have grown so much as learners together. They laughed together, read to each other, challenged each other's thinking, asked deep questions, listened to each other, shared their ideas through writing, and grew themselves as a global citizens. What an accomplishment for 5 and 6 year olds :) Thank you again for your part in helping them accomplish this. I hope you have an adventurous and relaxing summer, Rene |

Reminders for the week- Classroom volunteers: You may have noticed that the amount of jobs to do has been a little bit slim. With Ms. Ledford taking over many teaching responsibilities, we are finding that we have less and less jobs for classroom volunteers. You are welcome to still come in, but this is also a good time to "pass" if you want some time off :)
A note from Ms. Ledford and Ms. M
Reminders for the week:*** I spoke too soon.... the PBL Showcase of our African Savanna project will be the evening of June 4th! I should have known better than to send out a date that early :) The PBL showcase is a time where you get to come in and view our Kindergarten project and projects from all the other grades! This is a wonderful community building event where students and families can come and learn together! Our kindergarten life size savanna will be set up in the hallway outside our classroom as well as copies of our published "All About Books." Going "on safari"We are continuing to learn more and more about the savanna through books, videos, and each other. At the end of the day on Thursday, I spoke about what I have learned about animals and the savanna from traveling to Zambia. We talked about how there are really no "wild" animals anymore. They are all in game parks for protection, education, and tourism. We watched a slideshow of photos that we took while on our first safari to feel like we were "on safari" and to notice the animals that we saw. Here is the slideshow if you want to take a look :) ****scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to find the safari slideshow
Reminders for the week:Is your student on track to finish St math? There are around 25 cones to complete the kindergarten curriculum. If your student logs in at home and they are now close to completing, please take the time at home or over the summer to finish the kindergarten portion.
- WOW, we have been having a lot of birthdays lately! This is a reminder that when it is your child's birthday, they may bring in a book to either share with the class or donate. We typically have a birthday celebration that includes a song, trips around the "sun," and a compliment circle. If your child's birthday falls on a weekend, please e-mail me and I will let you know what day we will be celebrating in class. *** Mark your calendars! We will be showcasing our final African Savanna project to families and the community in the evening on June 11th. This will most likely be around 6pm.
A chance to host a teacher from Zambia!
Maurice Masala, one of the founding teachers of Dwankhozi Primary school will be here for 2 weeks at the end of April/early May! We are so excited to host him here and have some wonderful events planned for his stay.
**Dwankhozi partnership parent information night with Maurice! - April 28th from 6-8pm in the Lumen Building common room (the condo building above QFC on Mercer St.) - This is a great chance to learn more about our school partnership, welcome Maurice to our community, and spend some time with other parents interested in the partnership. This is not a fundraising event, just a gathering of parents and community members to learn together. **Maurice visits QAE! - Maurice will be visiting QAE on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of the first week in May (4th-8th). He will be visiting classrooms, having lunches with teachers to grow the partnership, and participate in our culminating assembly at 3:00 on Friday to celebrate him and our partnership. All are welcome to join the assembly on Friday, May 8th.
